The Fortnightly Review 3 — 2011
Archimedes once said, “Give me a lever and a long enough fulcrum which to place it and I shall move the world.” And that’s exactly how I feel about the Panasonic GF1. Forthcoming is not a review of the GF1 but just some sentiments that are ruminating upstairs.

“One Time” Panasonic GF1 + Olympus 17mm
So about this image. I had “One Time” from across the street and I knew he was coming my way. I had seen him before around my previous photo walks but this time the setting was just right. My GF1 was around my neck and as he approached(I was on the corner of the street) I began pressing that shutter until this last frame, he was right there, then tells me if I wanted to buy a chain, which I politely told him “no thanks” and then he replied “one time”.

Speaking about Daido
Generally speaking, Moriyama’s style and mine are quite different. What I like most about his work is the flow. You can feel his steps, and see what he sees. You can smell what he smells and hear what he hears. I like that.
Josh couldn’t be more right about Moriyama’s style and I concur 100%. When you see Daido in rhythm and motion(Stray Dog of Tokyo) what Josh says will resonate and then you’ll feel what I like calling the “Daido effect”.

These past two weeks have been filled with lots of emotions. First, I said good bye to a friend I only met for a few days – the Olympus EPL2 and secondly I greeted a new one – the Panasonic GF1, admired and coveted by many, and thirdly I got to photograph a small section of Little Havana.

In a way I liked it. I was reminded of a scene from Daido Moriyama’s documentary. Diary of a Stray Dog. He was walking through a part of Tokyo that looked seemingly deserted. He seemed at home there. He photographed what he saw. Everything’s art, everything’s a memory.
