Street Life

My photographs are not planned or composed in advance, and I do not anticipate that the onlooker will share my viewpoint. However, I feel that if my photograph leaves an image on his mind, something has been accomplished.

Cuban Eyes

I consider it essential that the photographer should do his own printing and enlarging. The final effect of the finished print depends so much on these operations.

- Bill Brandt

These days I no longer develop and print but instead I use Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro as my digital darkroom. I quite like it and see myself using it more and more. Although my friend, Josh White, has been dabbling lately with the Ricoh GR21 and GR1V and I must say I’m quite smitten by those rich tones.

Dungeon & Dragons

If a documentary photograph is to have any life in it, it’s very important that it exhibit certain characteristics. The photograph should, first of all, be about people. Nothing is more fascinating than the human face and the human condition.

Capturing the Soul

“Beauty can be seen in all things, seeing and composing the beauty is what separates the snapshot from the photograph.”

“One Time” Panasonic GF1 + Olympus 17mm

So about this image. I had “One Time” from across the street and I knew he was coming my way. I had seen him before around my previous photo walks but this time the setting was just right. My GF1 was around my neck and as he approached(I was on the corner of the street) I began pressing that shutter until this last frame, he was right there, then tells me if I wanted to buy a chain, which I politely told him “no thanks” and then he replied “one time”.

Mi Vieja Linda

€œWe photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing, and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth can make them come back again. We cannot develop and print a memory.

Rainy Day

I’ll make a confession. Most days I feel the urge to photograph, its just
something inside that tells me “go out there, just go” and time permitting, I often do as that voice tells me(figuratively speaking). I could be having a not so good day but photographing the faces, the drama, and the scenes that unfold on the streets makes me feel incredibly sedated and instantly better.

Today, was one of those days. The weather in Miami is incredibly unpredictable. One moment it will be the “Sunshine State” and just out of no where, the skies will turn black and torrential rain will pour for hours.
